Ukrainian film “Yaremchuk: Matchless World of Beauty” to appear on Netflix
The documentary film “Yaremchuk: Matchless World of Beauty” about the first Ukrainian pop star Nazariy Yaremchuk will be released on Netflix after the end of the theatrical release
This was stated on Netflix Ukraine's Instagram.
The documentary biographical drama directed by Artem Hryhorian about the Bukovinian artist, one of the founders of Ukrainian pop Nazariy Yaremchuk “Yaremchuk: Matchless World of Beauty” will be available on Netflix starting September 11.
The idea and production of the film was created by Maria Yaremchuk, daughter of Nazariy Yaremchuk, and Maksym Serdiuk. The film reveals not only Yaremchuk's story, but also shows the cultural atmosphere of the 1970s and 1980s in Ukraine.
“Can a song change the worldview of an entire generation? Nazariy Yaremchuk's experience proves that it can. In 1971, the whole country was singing the hit song “Chervona Ruta”. An unprecedented wave of popularity for Ukrainian music was unleashed. And it all started when a simple Carpathian boy wanted to sing more than anything else. The film was made at the initiative of the singer's daughter, Mariia Yaremchuk. It was originally planned to be released in 2021, when the singer would have turned 70. Later, the release date was pushed back,” the film's description reads.
Yaremchuk's family provided the artist's personal archives, diaries, and letters, which became the basis for the film. Recordings of concerts and interviews were searched for in state archives. The film contains lines from the singer's personal diary. Artificial intelligence was used to create a sound as close as possible to Nazariy's real voice. Those who worked with him during his lifetime and members of the Smerichka singing group also share their memories of the first Ukrainian pop star.
The film has already become the highest-grossing documentary in Ukraine. Over three weekends, it grossed UAH 9.9 million, surpassing the previous record holder, Mstyslav Chernov's Oscar-winning film 20 Days in Mariupol, which grossed UAH 9 million.
