Ukraine's demographic future doesn't look optimistic - Institute for Demography and Social Studies

She said this on Espreso TV.
"Unfortunately, demographic trends in Ukraine, even without the war, have been developing for many years in a row, even for several decades, so that our demographic future does not look optimistic. Women are having fewer and fewer children, and this was true even before the war. There are hopes for a baby boom after the war is over. But we still cannot say that women will start having more children. Life expectancy will certainly increase after the war. Before the war, we had quite positive trends in life expectancy," said Liudmyla Cherenko.
She added that the population of Ukraine will be mostly older people, and unfortunately, these are our prospects.
- Earlier, demographer Ella Libanova said that, according to the most optimistic forecast, in 10 years, no more than 35 million people will live in Ukraine within the 1991 borders. In her opinion, Ukraine will still be a poor country in 10 years, and millions of men will leave for their wives if the borders are opened.
- Oleksandr Hladun, deputy director of the Institute of Demography and Quality of Life Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, noted that approximately 34-35 million Ukrainians are currently living in the government-controlled areas.
