Ukraine to introduce visa system for travel between Ukraine, Russia from July 1
Speaking to the Council of Ministers, President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed amending the mechanisms governing how Russian citizens enter Ukraine. On June 17, the Cabinet of Ministers passed a resolution introducing a visa regime for Russian citizens
This was announced by the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister.
According to the planned decision, the visa regime will take effect on July 1, 2022.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal wrote that the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to introduce a visa regime.
"We are finally severing ties with Russia. In order to counter the unprecedented threats to national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state, the Government has just decided to terminate the visa-free agreement with Russia on behalf of the President of Ukraine," he said.
Information about the introduction of the visa regime was also confirmed by the head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak
"Today, the President began the process of introducing a visa regime with Russia. The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a decision according to which the visa regime for Russians will work from July 1, 2022," he wrote.
Earlier, the president said that he had proposed to the Cabinet to reconsider the regime of Russian citizens' entry into Ukraine.
"As part of counteracting unprecedented threats to national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state, he suggested that the Cabinet of Ministers consider revising the entry regime of Russian citizens into Ukraine. And today the Cabinet of Ministers has to confirm this important decision - the resolution about ‘The termination of the Agreement between Ukraine’s Government and the Government of the Russian Federation on visa-free travel for citizens of Ukraine and the Russian Federation and application of certain international agreements of Ukraine with the Russian Federation" Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote.
