Stories of prisoners under Russian occupation: documentary film Bring Me Home presented in Kyiv
On Thursday, July 11, the Ukrainian House in Kyiv hosted the premiere of the documentary film Bring Me Home about the stories of deported prisoners who found themselves under occupation
Ukrinform reported the information.
The premiere took place at the Ukrainian House.
Bring Me Home is a film that delves into the illegal transfer of prisoners from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia in the fall of 2022. It follows the journey of Ukrainians attempting to return home through Georgia after serving their sentences in Russian prisons. The film was previewed on June 23 at the ZEG Tbilisi storytelling festival.
The author of the film, a journalist with the project " How are you?", Mariana Sych, said that all the convicts are civilians.
According to her, the deported prisoners want to return to Ukraine, and Ukraine has to fight for each of them in the same way as for every deported Ukrainian child and prisoner of war.
"The choice is difficult in a limited period of time, most of them didn't have it. We basically forcibly left them in the occupation, handing them over to the Russians," emphasized Denys Maliuska, the Ukrainian Minister of Justice.
The screening was followed by a discussion on the topic "Are ICC warrants against Russian officials possible?". The discussion was attended by human rights activists, government officials and media.
