Ukraine starts importing Azerbaijani gas via trans-balkan route for first time

For the first time, the Group signed a contract with SOCAR Energy Ukraine to import gas from Azerbaijan. The supply will go through the Trans-Balkan route via Bulgaria, Romania, and up to Ukraine’s border.

“This is a small but strategically important step that opens the door to long-term cooperation. It’s also another move to diversify supply sources and boost Ukraine’s energy security,” said Serhiy Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz.

• Earlier, gas transmission operators in Poland and Ukraine agreed to temporarily raise guaranteed import capacity, from 6.4 to 12.4 million cubic meters per day.
