Ukraine should set conditions for just end to war - Stoltenberg
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that Ukraine must set its conditions for a just end to the war, and warned against hasty peace talks between Ukraine and Russia
He said this in an interview with the German publication Welt.
According to Stoltenberg, it is up to Ukraine to determine the conditions acceptable to it to end the war.
He also emphasized that a peace agreement cannot be dictated by the Russian side.
“We all want this war to end. But for peace to last, it must be just. Peace cannot mean freezing the conflict and accepting an agreement dictated by Russia. Only Ukraine can determine the conditions that are acceptable,” Stoltenberg said.
In particular, Stoltenberg noted that military successes would strengthen Ukraine's position in the negotiations:
“The more occupied territories Ukraine is able to liberate, the better cards it will have at the negotiating table to achieve a just and lasting peace.”
