Ukraine replaces North Command chief amid ongoing battles
Commander of Ukraine's Operational Command North, Major General Dmytro Krasylnykov, has been dismissed from his post
Krasylnykov himself commented on this in a statement to Suspilne.
According to him, he was not informed of the reasons for his dismissal and is currently in a reserve battalion.
"I'm guessing, but I don't want to talk about it yet," Krasylnykov said.
The day before, MP Mariana Bezuhla posted on Facebook about Krasylnykov's dismissal. According to her, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, dismissed the commander of the North Joint Forces Operation, despite the position of the Commander of the Land Forces, Mykhailo Drapatyi. Bezuhla made this post in response to her own post about the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Kursk region.
Krasylnykov himself commented to journalists that he did not see any significant reasons for his dismissal, including the situation in the Kursk region.
“My opinion on this is that there are no significant reasons for this (dismissal - ed.). And the events in the Kursk region... Roughly speaking, I left the Kursk region back in November [2024],” the major general emphasized.
According to Krasylnykov, Brigadier General Oleksiy Shandar, who previously served as the Deputy Commander of the Air Assault Forces of Ukraine, has already been appointed as his successor as the commander of the North Command.
What is known about Dmytro Krasylnykov
At the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Dmytro Krasylnykov was the commander of the North operational and tactical troop grouping. For two days, he fought off a continuous assault, saved people and equipment, and prevented the Russian attack on Kharkiv from the Luhansk region.
On February 28, 2022, Krasylnykov was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Golden Star for his personal courage and heroism in defending Ukraine's state sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as his loyalty to the military oath.
In March 2023, he was appointed Commander of the Operational Command North.
Last September, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case against Krasylnykov, accusing him of allegedly committing war crimes in the Kursk region.
