Ukraine repatriates remains of another 1,200 fallen soldiers
On June 14, 2025, the bodies of another 1,200 fallen soldiers were returned to Ukraine as part of ongoing repatriation efforts
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported the update.
As part of the agreements reached in Istanbul, another stage of repatriation efforts took place. Ukraine has received the remains of 1,200 individuals, who, according to the Russian side, are Ukrainian citizens—many of them believed to be servicemen.
In the coming days, law enforcement investigators, together with forensic experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will carry out all necessary examinations to identify the repatriated bodies.
This repatriation was made possible through the joint efforts of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service, and other institutions within Ukraine’s Security and Defense Sector.
The Headquarters expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance.
Special thanks were extended to the personnel of the Central Office of the Civil-Military Cooperation Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as to the Joint Center for Civil-Military Cooperation, which handles the transport of the repatriated remains to designated state institutions, and organizes their handover to law enforcement agencies under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and to forensic experts under the Ministry of Health.
- On Thursday, June 12, another prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia took place. A group of severely wounded and critically ill Ukrainian defenders was successfully returned from Russian captivity.
