Ukraine removes three companies from international sponsors of war list
List of international sponsors of war compiled by Ukraine includes companies still operating in Russia
The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has already removed three companies from the list of international war sponsors. Ahiya Zahrebelska, head of the NACP's corruption risk minimization unit, shared the information with Espreso.
"Companies that have left the Russian market or have made clear commitments to leave in a measurable way are removed (from the list -ed.). At the same time, if the company's plans have changed or we have seen the opposite trend, the company can be added to the list again," Zahrebelska explained.
In June, 2023, the agency removed a company from the list for the first time since its introduction. The company in question is the world's leading marine fuel supply company, Irish Peninsula Petroleum Limited, which provided evidence of having met all the required conditions for removal.
The second company removed from the list was Hungary's OTP Bank, and the third occurred recently: Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK) was delisted as a sponsor of Russia's war against Ukraine. This Indian diamond producer and exporter, which tripled its purchases of Russian diamonds this year compared to 2021, was added to the list by the agency in September and was subsequently removed in October.
"The company has issued an official statement saying that it will comply with its international obligations and will not cooperate with Russian sanctioned entities," the NACP explained, emphasizing that the sanctions mechanisms to limit purchases of Russian diamonds still have gaps. For example, rough Russian diamonds are mixed with other diamonds and then sold as "mixed.”
