Ukrainian refugees should be motivated to work or return home - Scholz
Unemployed Ukrainians in Germany should be encouraged to work or return home. Many of them have been on social benefits for too long
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this in the Bundestag on December 4, NTV reports.
“Too many of them have been here for so long that it's time for them to start working,” Scholz said and emphasized that Germany provides all the opportunities to learn the language.
However, according to the chancellor, the previous successes with “employment incentives” that the government has introduced for this purpose are not enough.
Scholz said that he had spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about this in “great detail.”
“He told me that he wants to create a Ukrainian institution in Germany and Poland that will support Ukrainians in returning or finding employment in Germany, so that we can work together in this direction,” the politician said.
In September, it was reported that the number of refugees from Ukraine who have found jobs in Germany has increased. Thus, in September, 8,500 Ukrainians found jobs in the primary labor market, took training or became self-employed.
