Ukraine ready to exchange collaborators, civilian Russians for Kremlin’s political prisoners – intelligence
This applies, in particular, to Russian citizens who have been convicted and are in Ukrainian prisons, but are not prisoners of war or military personnel, but wish to return to Russia
This was stated by Andriy Yusov, representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, at a briefing at the Ukraine Media Centre.
"Ukraine is ready to do this. Despite the fact that the majority of Russian society is indoctrinated by propaganda and supports the genocide of Ukrainians, there are citizens who were not afraid to oppose this bloody war, who supported Ukraine and Ukrainians in our struggle for independence. For this, they received really big sentences and are now in prison. As we are a European democratic country, it is our duty to help these people and remind the whole world that, in addition to the genocide of the Ukrainian people, we are talking about terror within Russia itself - and, of course, we are ready to host such people," said the representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
Yusov stressed that the priority remains the release of Ukrainian soldiers, so no one will exchange prisoners of war for Russian political prisoners.
"As for “Medvedchuk of various kinds” and citizens of the Russian Federation who are held in our prisons, a considerable number of whom are in our custody, yes, we can exchange them. There are other instruments of legal assistance and protection for those people who had the strength to condemn the genocidal war of modern Russia against Ukrainians, who came out with an anti-war position on the territory of modern Russia and, in fact, received repression and long sentences," Yusov added.
Ukraine is also ready to send Russian prisoners to Russia, taking Ukrainian defenders, but Russia mostly slows down the exchange process and does not care about the fate of most of its prisoners.
