Ukraine confirms “minerals deal” in the works, despite renewed criticism from Trump
Ukraine is pushing forward with economic talks with the U.S., despite President Donald Trump’s accusations that Kyiv is attempting to renegotiate the deal
Bloomberg reports that Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed ongoing talks with the U.S. on an "acceptable" economic accord, despite President Donald Trump’s claims that Kyiv is seeking to renegotiate.
Sybiha stated that a revised draft on infrastructure and natural resources has been received and Kyiv is ready to proceed. "We aim to finalize a mutually acceptable text with our American partners," he said in Kyiv on Tuesday.
Trump accused President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of trying to "renegotiate" terms, while Ukraine fears the deal may hinder its EU bid and force repayment of U.S. aid, Bloomberg News reported.
Meanwhile, a U.S.-brokered truce to protect Ukraine’s power grid has failed, according to Sybiha. A Russian strike on Tuesday hit an energy facility in Kherson, cutting power to 45,000 civilians. Similar attacks have targeted Kharkiv and Poltava.
