Ukraine awaits EU's assessment of its 7 recommendations' implementation in spring
Ukraine's further accession to the EU depends on its implementation of the EU’s 7 recommendations. The Ukrainian government has already adopted over 70 laws needed to implement the Association Agreement
Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna shared the information on the United News national telethon.
She said that for Ukraine's accession to the EU, the government primarily focused on political reforms and transformations. She also noted that the laws adopted in the course of the implementation of the 7 recommendations are of historical importance.
"Since the beginning of July, parliamentarians, the EU, and the European Council have been working on each recommendation, developing amendments to governmental acts, draft laws. The amendments were agreed with the European Commission, processed; EU recommendations were taken into account. It was the most dynamic process that allowed the adoption of the laws on media, on the protection of national minorities and the procedure for the selection of judges of the Constitutional Court at the end of the year. In addition to the fact that this is part of the implementation of the seven recommendations, each of these legislative changes is historically important, because for the first time in the history of Ukraine, the selection of judges to the Constitutional Court will be carried out on a competitive basis," said Stefanishyna.
She stressed that the importance of implementing these recommendations is to change the world's perception of Ukraine and to strengthen the rule of democracy in the country.
"For us, the implementation of these seven recommendations is primarily important, of course, for the transition to the next stage of accession to the EU. But both partners in the EU and NATO unanimously, together with Ukraine, assess the implementation of these seven political criteria as the final consolidation and strengthening of democracy in our country. This is a paradigm shift in the perception of Ukraine. Therefore, of course, we direct all possible efforts to achieve a positive result," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
She also informed that there are some technical processes to be completed , including the implementation of legislation, completion of all competitive procedures and selections. After the completion of these procedures in the spring, Ukraine will be able to receive an official assessment of the European Commission, which will pave the way for the next steps towards EU accession.
