Ukraine adopts 28 models of UAVs of its own production
The Ministry of Defence has announced that since February 2022, Ukraine has adopted 28 models of drones of its own production
This is stated on the website of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence.
It is noted that among all models there are 9 ‘kamikaze’ drones. Of these, 3 are aircraft-type and 6 are FPV drones. In total, the Armed Forces of Ukraine received thousands of drones as part of the defence procurement.
"The development of Ukrainian production of weapons and military equipment, including reconnaissance, attack, ‘kamikaze’ and barrage drones, is a priority for the Ministry of Defence. Therefore, in autumn 2022, the defence ministry significantly simplified procedures for inventors and manufacturers. As a result, the period for commissioning new weapons and equipment has been reduced from about 2 years to 3-5 weeks," the statement said.
Currently, the Ministry of Defence has signed contracts with a number of Ukrainian companies for the production of 10 different types of UAVs. Their names and volumes are not disclosed for security reasons.
In addition, as of July 20, two proposals were received from enterprises of the former Ukroboronprom concern (after reorganisation, Ukrainian Defence Industry JSC - ed.) In 2023, a state contract for the purchase of a reconnaissance drone was signed with an enterprise of the concern.
"We have also completed testing of a single kamikaze drone, developed by one of the enterprises of Ukrainian Defence Industry. The procedure for approval for operation is underway. After completion of the approval procedure and the General Staff determines the need for this unmanned aerial vehicle, a decision will be made on its purchase for the Armed Forces," the ministry added.
- On July 21, the Cabinet of Ministers had approved a pilot project for the production, procurement and supply of ammunition and combat parts for drones. The project is designed for two years.
