UK may give Ukraine not Storm Shadow, but Turkish KHAN ballistic missiles – military expert Kyrychevskyi
The UK may not provide Ukraine with Storm Shadow missiles capable of hitting targets up to 300 kilometres away, as it will take a long time to adapt them to new aircraft
Defense Express expert Ivan Kyrychevskyi said this on Espreso.
"I think the Brits will not give us Storm Shadow missiles. If we analyse the known experience of using this missile in real battles, this is not what we need to inflict a significant defeat on the Russians. The Storm Shadow has proven to be good in expeditionary missions against ISIS or the Assad regime, but it is a subsonic missile that can be shot down at the level of Russian X-101s," he said.
According to Kyrychevskyi, it is unlikely that the British themselves will give them to us, relying on their effectiveness.
"Most likely, the British will think of Turkey. If we rely on the wording that the missile is similar in characteristics to ATACMS, it will be a Turkish KHAN ballistic missile with a range of up to 300 km, and even a more powerful arm than on ATACMS. And we already have launchers for these missiles – this is official information from the 49th Artillery Brigade that we have Turkish missile systems," the expert said.
He added that apparently, the UK can give Ukraine these missiles, and Storm Shadow, perhaps, later.
"Adapting such a missile to a new aircraft takes a very long time, the Eurofighter Typhoon had to be redesigned for them for 6 years. And we needed these missiles yesterday. And KHAN ballistic missiles are something that can be provided immediately," Kyrychevskyi summarized.
