UK announces large package of military aid to Ukraine
The UK has announced a large package of military aid to Ukraine. It includes tanks, armored vehicles, UAVs and artillery shells
The UK's Ministry of Defense announced the information on Twitter.
"As part of a package of significant combat power to accelerate Ukrainian success, the UK will send a squadron of Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine," the ministry wrote.
As Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, added, in general, the aid package from Great Britain includes:
- 14 Challenger 2 tanks;
- 30 AS90 guns;
- 100 units of armored vehicles, including the Bulldog armored personnel carrier;
- dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles;
- 100,000 artillery shells;
- 100 "advanced missiles";
- spare parts for supporting Ukrainian tanks and armored vehicles.
British Defense Minister Ben Wallace speaking in the House of Commons emphasized that Ukraine's allies should "accelerate our collective efforts to dramatically, economically and militarily to keep the pressure" on Putin. He called the new aid package "the most significant package of combat to date to accelerate Ukrainian success."
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed that Britain will provide Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine during a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on January 14.
