On Sunday, September 14, U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Russia is the aggressor in the war against Ukraine, one of his harshest assessments of Moscow since taking office

Politico reported the information.

Commenting on Ukrainian and Russian military losses, Trump stated that the number of Russian casualties is higher because Russia is the aggressor.

“8,000 soldiers have died this week, from both countries. Some more from Russia, but when you’re the aggressor, you lose more,” the U.S. leader emphasized.

This statement contrasts with Trump’s previous stance, as he had earlier avoided directly condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

In February, his administration, along with Russia and North Korea, refused to support a UN resolution condemning Russia’s invasion. The U.S. also opposed a G7 statement that explicitly named Russia as the aggressor.

  • On September 12, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine is currently on pause.
