"Looking at this resolution now, it's one of the strangest situations I've seen in international law in recent years. I can't fully explain it, because these countries that voted for the resolution are not only China, but also India, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Armenia. They all voted for it and pretend they didn't vote for it – that's strange. I don't want to believe that diplomacy has deteriorated so far that they didn't even read the resolution," he said Portnikov
He added that none of the countries that supported this resolution commented on it later.
"When they attended the meeting of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, they behaved as if nothing had happened. And most importantly, their rhetoric did not change," the journalist added.
Portnikov pointed out that China, along with Brazil, India, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and others, did not refer to Russia as an aggressor.
"This is a strange story, of course, but it may be a small warning signal to Russia that they need to end the war," he emphasized.
Previously, China had either opposed or abstained from such votes. However, on May 2, China voted for the UN General Assembly resolution, which designated Russia as an aggressor for the first time.
