"They detain teachers, doctors, anyone who disagrees": regional official on Russian repression in Kherson region
Occupying Russian forces are resorting to increasingly heavy-handed measures to stifle dissent among locals in Russian-occupied Kherson region, and virtually every resident is at risk
Yurii Sobolevskyi, the first deputy chairman of the Kherson Regional Council, shared the statement on the air of the telethon.
The deputy said that the already difficult situation in the occupied territories has now changed for the worse.
"The Russian Guard and the FSB are putting a lot of pressure on people. Everyone is at risk. If they used to detain USS(Ukrainian Security Service) employees, ATO participants, and activists, today they detain teachers and doctors, anyone who disagrees. Any activity is extremism for the Russian Investigative Committee".
Moreover, Sobolevsky believes that in the future the Russians will intensify repression in the region in order to get a formal reason to deport people from the region.
"This shows that the repressions in the Kherson region will only intensify. They are doing this in order to open criminal proceedings against our people and for them to receive sentences, and the Russian Federation had the legal right to take people out of the region to serve their sentences," the deputy is convinced.
