The UK assumes that Russia may dare to use chemical weapons due to failures in the capture of Ukraine - The Guardian
Great Britain fears that Russia could prepare the ground for the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine after Kremlin officials claimed without strong evidence that the United States supports a program to create biological weapons in the country.
This was reported by the British The Guardian, informs Espresso.TV
Western officials said at a briefing on Wednesday (March 9th) that they had "good reasons to worry about the possible use of non-traditional weapons" by Russia, similar to the experience of using chemical weapons during the Syrian civil war.
The concern arose in part because Russia's foreign ministry was "preparing the scene" by making "false allegations" about Ukraine's biological weapons program.
Earlier on Wednesday, March 9, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia has documents showing that the United States supported a program to create biological weapons in Ukraine related to plague, cholera, and anthrax. Washington and Kyiv have denied these claims, which the United States called "absurd."
Separately, the Russian Ministry of Defence accused "Ukrainian nationalists" of preparing a "provocation" using chemical weapons in a village northwest of Kharkiv. The plan was to mistakenly accuse Russian forces of using chemical weapons, the ministry added.
Western officials have repeatedly warned of Russia's possible use of particularly deadly weapons over the past two weeks, such as thermobaric vacuum bombs, which damage human bodies due to the intensity of their blasts.
Such warnings from the West are designed as a deterrent but also based on the assessment that such weapons can be used.
Such assumptions are supported by the fact that Russia has shown a clear readiness to attack civilians, as its initial plan of invasion is progressing very slowly.
It is also the case that chemical weapons were used at least 17 times during the Syrian civil war and that Russia is clearly behind it, although it has consistently denied it.
