"The 1st and 2nd nuclear power units are mined" - Plachkov on situation at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant
Hryhorii Plachkov, former head of Ukraine's State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation, says that the invading Russian forces have mined the 1st and 2nd nuclear power units at the temporarily Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (NPP)
The former head of Ukraine's State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation, Hryhorii Plachkov, said this at the Media Center.
Currently, all nuclear units of the Zaporizhzhia NPP are in a state of cold shutdown, and the electricity supply has been repaired, but the occupation continues.
"We receive reports of abuse of the station's personnel, as well as Russia's attempts to transfer the Zaporizhzhia NPP under the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation. It is also known that the 1st and 2nd units are mined," Plachkov said.
Plachkov emphasized that it is difficult to predict the actions of the invading Russian forces, because they even allowed the detonation of mines on the territory of the station: "The only thing that can be predicted is that they are trying to do everything to make the Zaporizhzhia NPP work for the needs of Crimea or the unified system of Russia."
The former head is sure that it is necessary to put pressure on the Russian Federation with all the levers of influence.
"The architecture of nuclear security did not work. It was not stopped, neither by international treaties, nor by the Geneva Conventions. If Russia behaves like this, the world has no other option but to exclude this occupying country from respectable international organizations," Plachkov added.
