With the war’s changing nature and the growing use of strike drones, evacuating wounded soldiers from the battlefield has become much harder. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has ordered an expansion in the use of robots for this task

He made the announcement after a meeting on military medicine and medical support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"War and the main means of destruction are changing. Strike drones significantly extend the front line. Under such conditions, evacuating the wounded from the battlefield has become much more difficult," Syrskyi said.

The meeting addressed the condition of medical units, their staffing, training, and new evacuation methods. Proposed solutions include wider use of unmanned systems and ground robotic platforms, better supply of armored and evacuation vehicles, and other organizational and logistical measures to speed up the transport of the wounded and the delivery of aid.

"The main goal is to save the lives and health of the defenders of Ukraine holding the front line," Syrskyi stressed.

  • In April, the Ardal robot rescued three wounded Ukrainian soldiers who had been surrounded for a month.
