Taiwan planning USD 56 million donation to Ukraine to rebuild civilian infrastructure
Donation will help Ukraine’s government to rebuild schools, hospitals, and other public facilities damaged by the Russian forces
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan has allocated USD 56 million to donate to Ukraine, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu announced at a Taiwan-Ukraine Friendship reception on Wednesday, Taiwan News reports.
The money is intended for the Ukraine’s government to rebuild schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure which had been damaged or destroyed by the Russian military. The budget still needs to be reviewed by the legislature but the foreign minister said he was confident it would be approved.
The foreign minister added Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarships will be open to Ukrainian students beginning next year. He mentioned that the Taiwan Scholarship and Taiwan Fellowship are already available for application.
Wu said The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already established a task force in Poland to work together with Ukraine as the war against Russia continues. Bilateral discussions previously had to go through Taiwan’s office in Moscow.
The foreign minister also praised Ukraine for self-determination to defend yourself.
“We both are fighting for freedom and democracy. And we know Ukraine is going to prevail. Ukraine is going to win,” he added.
