Sweden's special services confirm damage to Nord Stream pipelines was sabotage, work to identify culprit
The inspection of the crime scene conducted by the security service at the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines sites has been completed - the investigation has strengthened suspicions that the incidents were acts of gross sabotage
This was reported by the State Security Service of Sweden.
This weekend, security police began investigating the crime scene with the support of the Coast Guard, the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Police Department.
After inspecting the crime scene, law enforcement officers found that explosions occurred on Nord Stream 1 and 2 in Sweden's economic zone, which caused significant damage to the gas pipelines. They most likely happened as a result of sabotage.
During the inspection of the scene, certain physical evidence was seized. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing and should show whether someone can be served with suspicion and subsequently brought to justice.
Also, the Swedish law enforcement officers note that after the completion of the investigative actions, the prosecutor removed the surroundings of the scene of the incident.
