Sweden, Ukraine to jointly produce and repair Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) IFVs, train Ukrainians operate them
On August 19, the leaders of Sweden and Ukraine agreed to strengthen cooperation in the production, operation, training and maintenance of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles
The website of the President of Ukraine reported the news.
"As part of its long-term commitment to support Ukraine, Sweden has donated Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) in solidarity with Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty and freedom. Sweden has also supported and will continue to support Ukraine with training, spare parts and maintenance of these vehicles," the presidential press service said.
It is also noted that modern and manoeuvrable ground combat systems are key to the fight against Russia. One of the main elements of both defensive and offensive operations on the battlefield is the mobility, firepower, reliability and protection of the crew of a modern tracked infantry fighting vehicle.
"Recognising that the CV90 is a highly effective and modern combat vehicle, Ukraine and Sweden are convinced that further cooperation on the CV90 platform will be mutually beneficial. Thus, this statement of intent demonstrates the desire of Ukraine and Sweden to strengthen cooperation in the production, operation, training and maintenance of the CV90 platform," Zelenskyy’s office said.
Such cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden will contribute to the further development of Western platforms.
In addition, it is noted that the statement of intent should be viewed in the light of the agreements between Ukraine and Sweden on the protection of classified information and support for defence procurement signed by the two sides during the NATO summit in Vilnius.
"With this statement, Sweden reaffirms its commitment to continue its strong support for Ukraine for as long as it is needed," the president's website said.
