Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut stated that a special event will be held in Istanbul on February 22, before the anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war, Turkish Anadolu Agency reported.
He noted that representatives of Kyiv and Istanbul will be invited to the event, which will discuss the "geopolitical and economic consequences" of Russia's war against Ukraine.
"This is also a way to express our support for Ukraine. On February 24 last year, the beginning of Russian aggression, was a decisive moment in European history. European history is our common geography," the EU ambassador told reporters.
"It is often said that September 11 was a turning point in American security history. February 24, 2022, I would say, is a similarly important situation for European security. There is a war on our continent, a brutal great war, a war with consequences far beyond the European continent," he added.
