Stormtroopers, artillery, and rear strikes are key elements in current offensive – military expert Zgurets
There are three main components to Ukraine's current offensive that are critical to bringing about change on the front line
Serhiy Zgurets, Defense Express CEO and military expert, shared the information with Espreso TV.
"Now, let's take a clear look at the situation. We were advised to use maneuver warfare, focus our brigades in one direction, and carry out combined operations. However, our partners realized slowly that concentrating our forces in one direction resulted in significant losses. Sending several brigades into a mined area slowed them down and made them vulnerable to enemy artillery and aircraft," Zgurets explained.
According to the expert, these risks became evident shortly after the initial actions of the 47th Brigade near Robotyne, and the current changes are now viewed as the optimal course of action.
"We have spent more time clearing mined areas, but we've set the stage for moving to the second line where the enemy's defenses are less concentrated, especially in terms of mines. The primary defense line is quite strong, but it's not just trenches; it's about protecting the personnel," he stated.
Zgurets added that the personnel is now concentrated in specific sections, which are targeted by artillery.
"That's why we now have three key components in our operations: small assault groups, artillery striking from a distance of 25 km to destroy Russian fortifications and enemy forces, and deep strikes up to 80 km. These three elements are crucial for changing the front line," the expert concluded.

On September 4, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Hanna Maliar, reported that since the Ukrainian counteroffensive began, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have reclaimed a total area of 47 square kilometers near Bakhmut. Just last week, they regained control of an additional 3 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.
