Storm Shadow is difficult to intercept with conventional air defense, but Russia's downing shouldn't be ruled out
The Storm Shadow missiles that Ukraine received from the UK fly quite low and are difficult to intercept by conventional air defense systems, but we should not rule out their downing by Russia
Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, said this during the telethon.
According to him, Taurus missiles, which Ukraine may receive in the future, and Storm Shadow and SCALP missiles, which are already in service, fly quite low and are "extremely difficult to intercept with conventional air defense systems."
"But these are the same cruise missiles that the enemy uses against us, the Kh-101s. I mean they are the same class: speed and flight parameters and so on. Therefore, we cannot rule out the possibility that they (Storm Shadow - ed.) are being shot down," Ihnat said.
However, we can already see the results of their work.
"So you can already see the results on the enemy's territory, how the ammunition depots are being destroyed, particularly in Crimea, how loud it was, and how it was burning. These are the missiles that we did not have before, but the enemy has - these are Kh-101s, for example, or the same Kalibrs, that is, these are the same cruise missiles in terms of tactical and technical characteristics, similar to those (Russian - ed.). That is, these are missiles that change the course of the war, that can deliver high-precision strikes and reach far away - something we really, really need," the spokesman added.
He emphasized that Ukraine expects an increase in the supply of such weapons and the adoption of appropriate decisions by its partners, including the German government, on the transfer of Taurus missiles.
"That's why we need more of these weapons, and a decision from our German partners would be very, very timely," Ihnat concluded.

On July 5, Oleksiy Hromov, deputy head of the Main Operational Directorate of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff, said that Storm Shadow missiles had successfully destroyed bridges near Chonhar. He added that Storm Shadow missiles allow for constant attacks on control points and storage sites for weapons, ammunition and equipment of the Russian army.
