Stoltenberg says NATO cannot allow Putin to win because it will "make world even more dangerous"
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that if Russia wins war against Ukraine, other countries will become more vulnerable, because authoritarian leaders will receive the "right" to use brute force.
Stoltenberg said this at the Bucharest forum organized by Aspen Institute on Tuesday, one of Ukrainian mass media reports.
"We all pay price for Russia's war against Ukraine. The price we pay is in money, while the price paid by Ukrainians is measured in blood," Secretary General of the Alliance said.
"If we let Putin win, we will all pay even higher price for many, many years to come. Because then lesson learned by President Putin and other authoritarian leaders is that goals can be achieved through the use of brute force. They will be encouraged to use even more force again and again. It will make our world even more dangerous and all of us even more vulnerable," he added.
According to Stoltenberg, that is why NATO's long-term security interest is to support Ukraine.
