South Korea, Russia sign contract to build Egypt's 1st nuclear power plant
Seoul insists there is no violation of international sanctions against Russia. The construction will cost USD 2.5 billion.
This is reported by Voice of America.
It is noted that South Korea has signed a contract with a Russian state company for the supply of components and the construction of buildings for the first nuclear power plant in Egypt.
Seoul is pitching a USD 2.5 billion contract as a success of its nuclear power technologies. However, it is sharply at odds with the attempts of Seoul's closest allies - the US - to exert economic pressure on Russia and isolate it from modern technologies due to the war started by Moscow in Ukraine.
For their part, South Korean representatives reported that preliminary consultations were held with the US, which is a strategic ally of South Korea, regarding this contract and that the technologies transferred to Moscow by Seoul as part of the Egyptian project will not violate international sanctions against Russia.
