"South Korea appeared to be the most difficult case": Kuleba names countries Ukraine would like to receive arms from
Ukraine would like to receive weapons primarily from South Korea and Japan, but these countries are still hesitating, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said
He said this in an interview with the BBC.
"Among all the Western countries, South Korea for me, somewhat unexpectedly, turned out to be the most difficult case. But we are extremely positive, Korea's role is becoming more and more constructive," Kuleba said.
According to him, Japanese law prohibits the transfer of weapons, in particular air defense systems, which Ukraine needs. At the same time, the minister mentioned that there were already precedents when countries changed their legislation for the sake of helping our country.
"Japan does not provide weapons because of its history, because of the defeat in the World War II and the legislation that prohibits the transfer of weapons. We would like Japan to transfer weapons to us very much, they have many things that we need, in particular, air defense. But there are examples of countries in Europe that have adjusted their legislation to be able to supply us with weapons after February 24, 2022. In Switzerland, which is the most famous neutral country in the world, the process of revising this legislation has been launched. It is too early to say that this process is finished, but it has started," said Kuleba.
As for other countries, Ukraine would also like to receive weapons from Indonesia and Thailand. In addition, the government is working on establishing contacts with India.
"India has many things that Ukraine needs, but it is taking a restrained position," Kuleba noted.
