Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico met on September 2 in Beijing on the sidelines of the SCO summit. During the meeting, Fico spoke about attacks on the Druzhba pipeline and compared Bratislava’s EU membership to “a frog at the bottom of a well that sees nothing”

This was reported by the state-run propaganda agency TASS.

“We are responding very strongly to attacks on oil infrastructure,” Fico told Putin, promising to raise the issue during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Uzhhorod on September 5.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin leader said Moscow “tolerated for a long time when Ukrainians targeted Russia’s energy infrastructure, and then began responding seriously.”

“About the hysteria in Western countries regarding alleged Russian plans to attack Europe: they are specialists in fairy tales and horror movies,” Putin added.

Fico also commented on the European Union, of which Slovakia is a member:

“Sometimes I feel like we in the EU are like that frog at the bottom of a well, and we don’t see what’s above. The world is completely different, and I am often very disappointed that, despite my respect, the EU is incapable of reacting to global developments. I don’t understand some of the decisions,” the prime minister said.

  • Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said Russian oil is flowing again to his country through the Druzhba pipeline, after he blamed Ukraine just days ago for "attacking" it.
