Situation on Ukraine's northern borders is controlled, Russia increases number of attacks - State Border Guard Service
Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, says that in May Russia has launched about 600 attacks on the border, and since the beginning of June the number has almost doubled
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"Regarding our northern borders and the border with Belarus, we currently maintain full control over the situation. There are no reports of Russian forces present on Belarusian territory that could potentially launch a re-invasion of Ukraine. However, it is crucial for us to remain prepared for any scenario, which is why we are continuously reinforcing our borders and border areas on a daily basis," said the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Andriy Demchenko added that about 1,500 Russian soldiers remain in Belarus, and at the beginning of the year their number would fluctuate between 10,000 and 11,000 soldiers who were involved in training exercises at training grounds.
"The situation on the border with Russia is much different. The enemy is shelling Ukrainian territory within Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions on a daily basis. Recently, we have recorded a significant increase in the number of attacks by the Russian army. For example, over the past day, our border patrols recorded about 80 such attacks. Over the past month, there were about 600 attacks, and since the beginning of June, the number has almost doubled. The enemy is using a variety of weapons to attack: artillery, mortars, aircraft, grenade launchers, and small arms. The enemy is trying to hit the locations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, but there are also targeted attacks on populated areas, which causes civilian casualties," said Demchenko.
