Defense Express describes features of Rak self-propelled mortars that increase Ukrainian army's capabilities
Defense Express development director Valerii Riabykh has spoken about 120 mm self-propelled mortars and their importance for the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"Technologically, these mortars allow the soldiers to take a position within 30 seconds and within a minute and a half to deliver a devastating, precision strike to the enemy at a distance of up to 12 km. After that, they can move to another position within 20 seconds to avoid falling victim to counter-battery fire," said Riabykh.
The units with the 44th Detached Mechanised Brigade are already operating a number of such systems. This significantly increases the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the front line, he said.
"This ensures the safety of the soldiers and increases the ability to destroy the enemy. Now the Ukrainian Armed Forces can fire a 120 mm mortar while being covered by armour. They can quickly manoeuvre to take up firing positions," the military expert added.
According to him, this system was developed in Poland to meet the needs of the battlefield today.
"In particular, the mortars are designed to meet the needs of linear troops, mechanised units and to increase the manoeuvrability, mobility and firepower of troops," he concluded.
- On December 17, it became known that Rak self-propelled mortars had arrived in Ukraine from Poland. They were promised to be delivered in March 2024.
