Seizing Bakhmut is another of Putin's political goals to justify war - military expert

Ukraine's Security Service Reserve Colonel, Mykhailo Prytula, believes that the desire to seize the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk region is another of Putin's political goals to justify Russia's war against Ukraine

The expert shared his opinion with Espreso TV.

"Bakhmut is Putin's political goal, because he needs to somehow justify this war. Bakhmut is one of the points that must be seized in order to obtain the entire territory of the Donetsk region. But 10 km of advance in a month is a very small result, almost none. Ukraine protects its troops, its soldiers, and equipment. Therefore, it opposes the great power of Russia, which exceeds Ukrainian forces by 10-20 times in some directions. Such a result for Russia is more than modest", Prytula noted.

The military expert added that invading Russian forces managed to advance only due to the superiority in manpower.

"The Russians are not able to realize the political goal of seizing the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The occupiers are currently trying to take a break and hold the captured territories. The meager advance of the Russians in the East took place only due to the huge number of infantry - manpower. The Russians are simply walking away, as in the times of the Second World War: ahead of them is a fire rampart, behind it - infantry", Mykhailo Prytula concluded.
