Schröder's statements about Russia's readiness for negotiations renew Putin's legitimacy in the world's eyes - international journalist

Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to negotiate with Ukraine, because it would mean that he is influential

International journalist Yehor Brailyan said this on Espreso.

He commented on the statement of German ex-chancellor Gerhard Schröder that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to a diplomatic settlement of the war with Ukraine.

"For Putin, the issue of negotiations is the most important. First of all, because it restores Putin's legitimacy in the eyes of the international community. If they want to negotiate with a politician, he is important and influential", the journalist said.

In his opinion, Ukraine will not make any concessions and negotiations with Russia until the complete de-occupation of all territories takes place.

"That is why Putin wants to shake European and transatlantic unity and it is now important for the West not to fall for this Putin's hook. I think that many European politicians in the West see who Putin is. He breaks any agreements, he does not want to make concessions  and withdraw their troops from Ukraine", Brailyan concluded.
