Russian leader Vladimir Putin says that Russia’s defense spending has caused inflation. He also spoke about Western sanctions against Russia’s economy

He said this after a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Minsk, according to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
Putin said about the sanctions, “They are on the brink of death, but are pretending we’re the ones to be buried.”
He added that Russia’s defense budget of 13.5 trillion rubles “is not insignificant.”
“We paid for it with inflation, but the country is fighting it,” Putin said.
He also said that Russia wants to finish the “special military operation” with the result Russia wants.
“Defense spending is for this goal, not to attack Europe,” he added.
Putin spoke about new sanctions on Russia’s economy, saying, “The more sanctions there are, the worse it will be for those who put them in place.”
- Meanwhile, Putin said he was ready for a third round of talks with Ukraine and made his first comments on the proposals sent to Moscow during the meeting in Istanbul.
