CNN reported the information, citing sources.
Dmitriev is expected to meet with officials from the U.S. administration “to continue discussions about the U.S.-Russia relationship.”
“The visit comes amid growing US frustration over the Kremlin’s refusal to end its war in Ukraine and after Trump said he had 'canceled' a planned summit with his Kremlin counterpart, Vladimir Putin,” the outlet emphasized.
The report notes that the Kremlin envoy became the first Russian official to visit Washington after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine — in April this year. At that time, the U.S. government temporarily lifted sanctions against him so that Dmitriev could obtain a visa, CNN’s source said.
- On October 22, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, due to Moscow’s lack of readiness to end the war in Ukraine.
