Russia isn’t asking U.S. to lift sanctions — Putin’s envoy
The Kremlin’s special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries, Kirill Dmitriev, who is currently in Washington, stated that Russia is not asking the United States to lift sanctions as part of the negotiation process to end the war
Dmitriev made this statement in an interview with Fox News.
In response to a question about whether lifting sanctions is a condition for Russia to agree to a ceasefire, Putin’s envoy said, “Russia is not asking for sanctions to be lifted.”
“Because if you look at our GDP growth rate, it was 4% last year compared to Europe’s, which was only 1%,” Dmitriev stated.
He also said that American companies have lost about $300 billion in revenue after leaving Russia due to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“I believe sanctions might be lifted when American companies want to return and take advantage of business opportunities in Russia. But for now, Russia is not setting any preconditions and is not demanding any specific easing of sanctions,” Dmitriev said.
- In the same interview, Dmitriev accused Ukraine of violating an energy truce.
- Dmitriev is in Washington for talks with the U.S. administration on establishing dialogue between the U.S. and Russia. For his visit, the United States lifted sanctions against him.
