Finland to send ammunition to Ukraine using profits from frozen Russian assets
Finland has joined an EU initiative aimed at providing military assistance to Ukraine through revenues generated from frozen Russian assets held in Europe. Under the program, €90 million has been allocated for this purpose
As reported by the Finnish Ministry of Defense, Finland is among the selected countries that will contribute to Ukraine’s defense using funds derived from immobilized Russian assets.
According to the agreement with the European Commission, Finland will supply large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine. The munitions will be procured from Finnish defense manufacturers and financed via proceeds from frozen Russian assets. The funding will be channeled through the European Peace Facility.
Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen emphasized that this approach simultaneously supports Ukraine and strengthens Finland’s defense industry.
"This new package alongside our national EUR 660 million support programme will forge closer links between the Finnish industry and Finland’s support for Ukraine. This is a great example of the Finnish defence industry’s abilities, and it shows that our investments into ammunition production capacity are paying off," Häkkänen said.
- Finnish President Alexander Stubb, after a lengthy conversation with his American counterpart, said that Donald Trump is running out of patience with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
