European Parliament backs total ban on Russian oil, gas
The European Parliament has agreed on its position regarding the project for a complete phase-out of Russian gas and oil, marking a new step towards the European Union's adoption of this decision

The relevant announcement was published by the European Parliament's press service.
On Wednesday, October 22, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) supported the decision to begin negotiations with the Danish presidency on a full ban of Russian gas and oil imports.
Now, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU, which has already approved the proposal on its part, will begin negotiations to finalize the project before its first reading.
On October 20, the EU Council supported the RePowerEU mechanism by a majority vote, which provides for the European Union's complete discontinuation of Russian fossil fuel use; Hungary and Slovakia opposed the measure.
