Russia's hopes to buy time – President of Finland
Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that Russia is employing a strategy of prolonging the war in Ukraine and has no real intention of supporting a ceasefire or peace
He made this statement following a meeting of the "coalition of the willing," organized by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as reported by Yle.
"Putin is not calling for a ceasefire, truce, or peace. His main goal — the destruction of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity — has not changed," Stubb said.
He expressed hope that Western pressure on Russia would continue, forcing it to engage in peace talks. The Finnish president also called the support meeting for Ukraine, initiated by Starmer, a step forward.
Stubb revealed that a coalition of around 30 countries is currently forming, all willing to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
"The UK and France are taking strong leadership roles, and everyone has a clear understanding of the situation: Ukraine wants peace and a ceasefire, while Russia does not," Stubb concluded.
- Previously, President Stubb suggested that European leaders come together to develop a plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
