Russians start campaigning for pseudo-elections in Zaporizhzhia region – Ukraine’s General Staff

Russia continues illegal integration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine into its socio-political space

It was reported in the General Staff's evening report as of August 8.

In the village of Stulneve, Zaporizhzhia region, the occupying Russian forces began preparations for campaigning before the "elections" in the occupied territories - on the single election day in Russia - September 10.

"Representatives of the United Russia party are expected to arrive to create groups of agitators and informers from among local collaborators," the General Staff reports.

Situation at the front and Russian attacks on the territory of Ukraine

During the day, the Russian forces launched 3 missile and 47 air strikes, fired 55 times from MLRS at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the civilians, residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed.

"The threat of further missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high," the General Staff underlines.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire border line with mortars and artillery: over 15 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked.

 

Russian attacks in other Ukrainian regions

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the line. Russia conducted air strikes in the areas of Sinkivka and Kotlyarivka in the Kharkiv region and Novoselivske in the Luhansk region. 10 settlements of the Kharkiv region came under artillery shelling. 

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces launched aviation strikes on 5 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Four more localities came under artillery fire. 

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers are holding steadfast and have successfully repelled enemy attacks on the outskirts of Klishchiyivka, Donetsk region. Russian forces launched aviation strikes on 5 settlements. Over 10 localities in the Donetsk region were attacked by the invading Russian forces.

In the Avdiivka direction, being under heavy fire from aircraft and artillery, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled attacks by Russian troops in the areas of Avdiivka and Severne in Donetsk region. Seven settlements in the Donetsk region were attacked. 

In the Marinka direction, Defense forces continue to hold back the Russian offensive in the area of Marinka. Russia launched an air strike near Krasnohorivka. Four settlements in the Donetsk region came under shelling. 

In the Shakhtarsk direction, terrorists made unsuccessful attempts to regain their lost ground in the area of Staromayorske. Ten localities in the Donetsk region came under Russian fire. 

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the enemy launched air strikes near Novodanylivka and Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia region. Over 15 towns and villages were subjected to numerous attacks by the occupying Russian army.

In the Kherson direction, more than 10 localities came under artillery fire, including the city of Kherson, as well as Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region.

About 20 combat clashes took place during the day

"The Ukrainian defense forces continue to conduct an offensive operation on the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, consolidate their positions, and carry out counter-battery measures," the General Staff says.

Strikes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian terrorists

Over the past day, Ukrainian aviation carried out 9 strikes on the areas where enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment were concentrated.

Rocket and artillery units hit 2 control points, 5 artillery pieces in firing positions, an ammunition depot and 2 enemy electronic warfare stations.
