Russians launch 81 missiles over Ukraine: Ukrainian air defense shoot down 34 cruise missiles and 8 guided air missiles

During the massive attack, Russia launched 81 missiles of various types, the defenders shot down 34 cruised and 8 manned aircraft units, 4 UAVs were eliminated

The AFU Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi reported on a massive missile attack on Ukraine on March 9.

As of 07:00 a.m., Russians launched 81 missiles of various types:

- 28 launches of Kh-101/Kh-555 air-based cruise missiles

- 20 launches of Kalibr sea-based cruise missiles

- 6 launches of Kh-22 air-based cruise missiles

- 6 launches of Kh-47 Kinzhal air-based cruise missiles

- 8 launches of guided air missiles: 2 – Kh-31P; 6 – Kh-59

- 13 launches of S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles

Invaders used 8 Shahed-131/136 attack drones.

"The units and means of the AFU Air Forces in cooperation with the units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed 34 Kalibr and Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles out of 48, as well as 4 Shahed-136/131 UAVs. As a result of the organized countermeasures, 8 guided air missiles Kh-31P and Kh-59 did not reach their targets," the General Staff summarized.

The Air Force emphasized that the defenders still do not have means that could destroy the Kh-22, Kh-37, Kinzhal and S-300.

Natalia Humeniuk, OC South spokeswoman, previously reported on the attack on the south on TRK Kyiv channel. 

"Here energy infrastructure facilities were hit, the damage is not critical, repair work is already taking place. Air defense did a great job. 19 targets were shot down – 18 missiles and one drone. There were two attack waves, and Russian drones conducted reconnaissance" the spokeswoman said.

And the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Serhiy Lysak claimed that the Ukrainian defenders of the Air Command East shot down 7 Russian missiles over the region.

It was also reported that air defense units shot down 6 missiles and one unmanned aerial vehicle in the sky over the Odesa region.
