Russians are in strategic deadlock on eastern front — military expert Popovych
Military expert Denys Popovych noted that in the Bakhmut direction, Russian forces are trying to attack the fortified positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
He said this on the air of Espreso TV channel.
"On the eastern front, the Russian forces are in a strategic deadlock. There is no progress on their side, but there is no progress on our side either. Russians are trying to attack near Bakhmut, positional battles continue. They are bloody and destructive, but Bakhmut is holding," said Popovych.
According to the military expert, the battle near Bakhmut reminds of the First World War.
"Bakhmut is the second Verdun (Battle of Verdun - ed.) The battle of Bakhmut is reminiscent of the First World War. Russians are trying to attack fortified positions and throw people in waves. They advance 100-200 meters, and then the Armed Forces knock them out. Russians are also trying to counterattack in the Luhansk sector," added Popovych.
