Ukraine returns 931 children from Russian-occupied territories since 2022
Due to the efforts of government agencies and the public sector, a total of 931 children were returned from the occupation. Currently, there are 1.5 million Ukrainian children in the Russian-occupied territories
Ukraine's Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said this during the Fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, Ukrinform reports.
"We have returned 388 children who were officially recognized as deported. According to our data, the efforts of all state bodies and the public sector have resulted in the return of 931 children, primarily from the temporarily occupied territories. I believe that these children are at risk of deportation, and some of them were forcibly moved within the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
He noted that, according to official figures, there are 19,546 deported and/or forcibly displaced children, but the real numbers are unknown. In addition, 1.5 million children still remain in the temporarily occupied territories and could be deported.
"According to our data, recently more than one thousand Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied Kherson region alone were sent to Kabardino-Balkaria in the Russian Federation for so-called rehabilitation. And we do not know how many children will return from there," Lubinets said.
- On September 10, 6 children from the occupied Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk regions and Crimea were returned to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine.
