Ukraine identifies Russian paratroopers behind Bucha massacre
Ukrainian investigators have identified 12 Russian paratroopers from the 234th Airborne Regiment as responsible for the deliberate killing of civilians in Bucha during March 2022, marking one of the most horrific incidents of the invasion
Ukraine’s National Police reported the information.
Between March 5 and 9, the Russian soldiers executed 16 civilians, including women, children, and elderly people, at the intersection of Vokzalna and Yablunska streets. Victims were shot while trying to evacuate, reach work, or simply search for food. Images of the massacre, such as a man on a bicycle and a woman with red nails, shocked the world after the city’s liberation.
Investigations reveal that the paratroopers carried out these killings under orders to fire at anyone in sight, with their commander directly supervising the operation. Evidence collected by Ukrainian authorities confirms the premeditated nature of these war crimes.
The charges include violations of international war laws, with potential life imprisonment for those involved. Ukrainian police, in collaboration with the International Criminal Court, are pushing for accountability at the highest levels of Russia’s military and political leadership.
