
Russia’s night attack on May 25 kills 13, injures over 70 in Ukraine, with children among victims

On the morning of May 25, Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that 13 regions faced Russian attacks overnight, including Kyiv city, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, and Poltava regions.
Russia employed missiles and attack drones, targeting civilian homes. Over 80 residential buildings were damaged, and 27 fires broke out, with firefighters still working to extinguish flames at three sites.
By 10:40 a.m., more than 70 people have been injured, and 13 killed. Among the dead are three children from the same family in Zhytomyr region; their parents remain hospitalized, with their mother in serious condition.
Klymenko emphasized, “It was a combined, ruthless attack aimed at civilians. The enemy has once again shown that its goal is fear and death.”
Aftermath of the attack on Kyiv
In the morning, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that a Russian attack last night caused a fire in the Holosiivskyi district of the city. The fire started on the facade of a five-story dormitory after a gas pipe on the second floor was damaged. Part of the building was destroyed. Four people were injured but refused hospitalization.
In the Dniprovskyi district, a two-story private house was damaged, and a woman was injured. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a multi-story building was also hit, and three people sought medical help.
Later, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA), Timur Tkachenko, said the number of victims in the capital had risen to 11. Three of the wounded were hospitalized.
Tkachenko also warned that debris from downed enemy air targets is still being found in open areas of the city. He urged residents not to touch or approach the wreckage, as it may contain explosives.
At 00:44 a.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that air defense was operating in the capital. Residents heard explosions. According to the head of the KCMA Timur Tkachenko, there are more than a dozen drones in the airspace around the capital.
"The night will not be easy. There is a threat of the enemy using a large number of drones and missiles from strategic aircraft," he wrote.
At 01:02, debris was recorded falling on a 5-story residential building in Holosiivskyi district: partial destruction of the building and a fire were observed, rescuers were working at the scene.
At 02:20, Klitschko said that in the Holosiivskyi district, medics provided on-site assistance to four victims in a student dormitory. It was noted that a drone fragment hit the room, and the exterior of one of the walls of the building was on fire.
A few minutes later, Klitschko reported that a private house was destroyed in the Dniprovskyi district.
“Doctors are currently examining one person. Another victim received medical help on the spot in the Desnianskyi district,” he added.
Later, the mayor said that a second person in Desnianskyi district had sought medical help and was hospitalized. As of 2:24 a.m., seven people had been injured in the capital — six of them were treated at the scene.
At 2:28 a.m., Klitschko reported that medics had been called to the Shevchenkivskyi district.
“Doctors are examining one victim in Shevchenkivskyi. Windows in a residential building were shattered. There’s no fire, but wreckage from a downed UAV was found in the yard,” he said at 2:45 a.m.
By 3:02 a.m., the number of injured in Kyiv had risen to 10. Two people were hospitalized, six were treated on the spot, and two were still being examined in Shevchenkivskyi.
At 3:28 a.m., the mayor warned again: “Air defense is working in the capital. Kyiv is under massive attack! Stay in shelters!”
Kyiv region
At 3:31 a.m., the Kyiv Regional Military Administration confirmed that air defense systems were active in the region.
By morning, authorities reported that four people had been killed during the night’s Russian attack in Kyiv region. In Obukhiv district, firefighters found the bodies of two people while extinguishing a fire. Another person was killed and one injured in Bucha district.
In Bila Tserkva, a man was injured by drone fragments, and a frame shop was destroyed.
In Bila Tserkva district, a 59-year-old man suffered shrapnel wounds to his face but was not hospitalized. Five others were injured, including two children.
In Fastiv district, one person was killed and eight were injured, including a child. Three houses were destroyed.
In total, the overnight attack killed four people and injured 16, including three children.
Zhytomyr region
The Russian attack on Zhytomyr region killed three children aged 8, 12, and 17. Rescuers recovered one of the bodies from the rubble.
Another 10 people were injured and taken to the hospital. Several private homes were destroyed or damaged.
In Berdychiv district, two people were injured, including one child. A five-story building, private houses, and outbuildings were also damaged.
Chernihiv region
At 2:08 a.m., Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the Chernihiv city military administration, reported explosions on the outskirts of the city and confirmed that air defense was active. Around 3:30 a.m., Suspilne also reported hearing explosions in Chernihiv.
Later, the State Emergency Service said Russian forces had launched an air attack on the region using drones and missiles. Several strikes were recorded in different areas.
Fires broke out in warehouses and non-residential buildings. The largest fire covered more than 1,000 square meters. A coal hangar and another non-residential building were burning separately.
The regional center was also hit, damaging a building. Authorities are still clarifying information about possible casualties.
Kharkiv
At 1:37 a.m., Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported an explosion in the city. Later, he confirmed two more explosions.
Ten minutes later, Terekhov said there was a fire at one of the impact sites.
By 2:03 a.m., preliminary reports showed strikes in Osnovianskyi, Novobavarskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts.
“A civilian enterprise was hit in Osnovianskyi district. Emergency crews are working at the damage sites. The threat to the city continues — many enemy UAVs are still in the area,” he wrote.
At 2:30 a.m., the mayor said an office building was hit in Shevchenkivskyi district. Glass windows in several apartment buildings were broken. One child was injured by glass shards and is receiving treatment.
By 3:00 a.m., the number of injured in Shevchenkivskyi district rose to three.
Mykolaiv
At 1:17 a.m., Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, said, “Ambulance services are responding to calls.”
At 2:16 a.m., Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych reported that a Russian drone attack damaged residential areas.
Later, Kim confirmed that two people were injured and hospitalized in Mykolaiv.
In the morning, the regional military administration said the city faced a massive Russian drone attack between 12:44 a.m. and 1:33 a.m. The attack damaged infrastructure, office buildings, private houses, and power lines across the city. Two floors of an apartment building were destroyed, and debris damaged a nearby multi-story building.
By morning, a 77-year-old man had died from the night attack. Five people were injured, including a 17-year-old boy in serious condition. Two women were hospitalized, also in serious condition. Two others were treated at the scene.
Between 12:20 a.m. and 12:50 a.m., Russia also attacked Bashtanka district with Shahed drones. The strike damaged a warehouse at an agricultural enterprise, five combines, and a caterpillar tractor. No casualties were reported.
Sumy region
At night, Russia attacked an industrial food enterprise in Sumy twice using attack drones. The Regional Military Administration said this was the second strike on the facility; the first happened in April.
Fortunately, the workers reached the shelter on time, and no one was injured.
Also last night, the town of Konotop in Sumy region faced a massive attack by Russian missiles and drones.
Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin called it the largest and most intense attack on the town since World War II. So far, there are no casualties or injuries.
However, the attack damaged the city’s infrastructure, and some streets lost power. The mayor promised to restore everything within a few hours.
Additionally, a 60-year-old man from a village in Buryn community was killed in an enemy attack on the evening of May 24. He worked as a security guard at a large local pig farm and died at his workplace.
Ternopil
Around 2:56 a.m., a Kalibr cruise missile hit an industrial building in Ternopil, causing partial damage and starting a fire. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze into the morning.
Preliminary reports say no one was injured. Nearby houses had their windows damaged.
Khmelnytskyi region
According to the Regional Military Administration, the Russian attack hit Khmelnytskyi region last night, damaging civilian infrastructure.
Preliminary reports say four people were killed. Five others were injured by shrapnel and are in the hospital, with one in serious condition.
Six private homes were destroyed, and more than 20 buildings were damaged. Windows in a school and public transport were also broken.
Odesa region
In the morning, rescuers put out a fire caused by the Russian attack in Odesa region.
The fire burned 20 cars in a parking lot surrounded by high-rise buildings.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the attack.
