
Russian forces shell Ukraine’s Sumy region: civilians killed, teen among wounded
On May 5, the invading Russian army attacked the Sumy region with artillery and guided aerial bombs, resulting in civilian deaths; among the wounded is a 16-year-old boy
The press service of the Sumy region prosecutor’s office reported the information.
According to the report, Russia carried out massive shelling throughout the day on the Bilopillia and Vorozhba communities in the Sumy region.
In the Bilopillia community, one person was killed and one wounded; in the Vorozhba community, two people were killed and three wounded, including a teenager.
"According to the investigation, on May 5, 2025, throughout the day, using methods of warfare prohibited by international law, the invaders attacked with artillery and dropped guided aerial bombs on civilian and critical infrastructure in the Sumy district. As a result of the enemy attack in the Bilopillia community, a 48-year-old civilian man was killed, and another 34-year-old man was wounded," the statement says.
"In the Vorozhba community, according to preliminary data, two men received injuries incompatible with life. Three people were wounded, including a 16-year-old boy," the prosecutor’s office added.
Criminal proceedings have been opened for war crimes resulting in the death of people (Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
- Residents of Bilopillia and Vorozhba in the Sumy region are advised to urgently evacuate to safe locations. Evacuation buses will run daily.
