Russian forces kill 1,800 civilians, including 43 children, in Bucha district
Invading Russian army committed over 9,000 war crimes in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region, including the killing of 1,800 civilians
Acting Prosecutor General Oleksii Khomenko stated this during the Bucha-2025 summit, held to mark the third anniversary of Kyiv region’s liberation from the Russian forces, according to Ukrinform.
“Within just 30 days of occupation in the Bucha district, more than 9,000 war crimes were committed, 1,800 civilians were killed, including 43 children, and 3,800 buildings were destroyed. As a result of the investigation into these criminal cases, over 170 individuals have been charged, and 21 war criminals have been convicted,” he said.
According to him, “the Bucha massacre was not accidental”; it was a planned atrocity that was not only tolerated but also encouraged by the Kremlin.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, in turn, emphasized that in Bucha, “the Russians committed an act of genocide unprecedented in 21st-century Europe.”
He added that Ukraine is working to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The wounds of Bucha will never fully heal. Just like the wounds of Mariupol, Izyum, Olenivka, Kramatorsk, and many other places — points of our pain on the map of Ukraine, on the map of Europe. We remember the victims of Russian terror. We honor the heroes who liberated us. We are doing everything to ensure that the enemy is held accountable and pays for its crimes. This is one of the key conditions for achieving a just and lasting peace,” said the Prime Minister.
